Thermo Oak

The Stunningly Resilient

Thermo Oak is a natural, chemical-free material which is treated under extremely high temperatures (200 C).

Sugars are cooked away leaving a safe, green alternative to chemically preserved and other scarce hardwoods.

When hardwood is thermally modified, the process permanently alters the wood’s chemical and physical properties when temperatures over 200 ̊C are reached. The thermal modification process reduces the equilibrium wood moisture content down to a very low range of 5-6%.

Premium

Our Premium grade is predominately clean and has the most consistent colour across the timber.

Small pin knots and character markings are permitted.

Benefits of Thermo Oak

Stability –The thermal process vastly increases the timber’s stability in service. Tangential and Radial Shrinkage and Swelling can reduce by as much as 15%, compared to the natural, untreated product. Core moisture remains around 4 to 6% during its service life.

Decay Resistance –heat removes the sugar-based, food source for insects and fungi, resulting in a durable interior and exterior product.

Repels Moisture –the heat process fundamentally changes the hygroscopic ability of wood, reducing the wood’s ability to absorb moisture up to 85%.

Chemical-Free –naturally durable hardwood product without the use of chemicals.

Thermally efficient – Thermal conductivity is reduced by 15-20%.

Beautiful – a rich, deep chocolate brown color with stunning Oak grain. The color is full depth, not just on the surface.
