American Red Oak is an attractive timber that showcases the traditional oak characteristics.

We exclusively import a ‘wheat’ or ‘blonde’ grade of American Red Oak sourced from the Northern American states.

The heartwood is a subtle pink to red-golden/brown with a white to light brown sapwood.

American Red Oak is a stable and naturally hardwearing timber that is abundant in Northern America.

Our American Red Oak is an excellent entry option to the solid hardwood timber market in both price and availability.

Premium

Our Premium grade is predominately clean and has the most consistent colour across the timber.

Small pin knots and character markings are permitted.

Small quantities of sapwood is permitted.

American White Oak vs American Red Oak

American White Oak (Quercus alba) has traditionally been the most widely imported timber from America. Consequently, the names ‘American White Oak’ and ‘American Oak’ have largely been interchangeable up until now. 

Northern American Red Oak (Quercus rubra) is now also imported from America in large quantities. Northern Red Oak is also known as a ‘wheat’ or ‘blonde’ grade of Red Oak. Some retailers and wholesalers use other names for this timber.

American Red Oak is a sound all-round timber and is used widely in America and abroad for a range of applications including flooring and joinery. But it is not comparable in quality, durability and overall appearance of American White Oak. 

Consequently, the pricing for our American Red Oak is very reasonable and offers an excellent entry point to the solid hardwood timber market.
